Pausing To Remember

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” - Romans 10:12

The orange church pews.

The beautiful wooden arches.

The sweet smell of yellow cornfields surrounding the small northern Iowa church I grew up in.

I met my Savior, Jesus, in that place.

At 6-years-old, I knew I was a sinner. I didn’t understand the Easter story like I do today, but oh that childlike faith. ”But God demonstrates his own love for us in this, while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” - Romans 5:8

When did you meet Jesus for the 1st time?

When did you run into the arms of the Rescuer?

When did you accept the free gift of salvation from the One who gave His life, for yours?

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” - Romans 10:9

As we make plans to celebrate His Resurrection this weekend; to worship with thousands, to rejoice that He has conquered death, to pray for the salvation of “the one” we’ve invited, to lovingly prepare food and traditions for our families, will you join me in pausing?

Stopping for a moment, to remember. To whisper prayers of gratitude for the day when He saved you. If you had been the only one who needed to be rescued, Jesus would have gone to that old rugged cross. His blood shed for you. The God of creation, who commands the armies of heaven, yet He sees you and me.

He sees us with hands in our kitchen sink scrubbing dishes, folding piles of laundry, comforting a baby in the middle of the night, driving a teen to an activity, choosing to love someone who has wounded us, missing a grandparent who is spending this Easter in heaven.

In the pause, we are reminded of His unshakable, unconditional love for us. How intimately He knows, loves, and sees us, His daughters.

His “treasured possession,” now adopted into the family of God.(Deuteronomy 14:2).

 Easter and all year long.

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” - Romans 10:12
